Day-to-day member care management is still the backbone of health plan operational, financial and quality performance. While new products, programs, markets, regulations, and concepts often command the attention of health plans or networks, it is critical that organizations keep their "eye on the ball" and maintain a focus on the daily care management of their member population. This web summit provides a detailed discussion of current trends, tools, strategies, techniques, benchmarks and critical issues involved with care management in today's environment.

The web summit provides a package consisting of a "live" 1 hour and 45 minute webinar/audio conference session, companion faculty slide presentations that you can view 24/7 on the web and ask e-mail questions, downloadable faculty podcasts, e-poll, article library, attendee feedback and participation and more! Co-Sponsored by DST Health Solutions.

OVERVIEW

Day-to-day member care management is still the backbone of health plan operational, financial and quality performance. While new products, programs, markets, regulations, and concepts often command a health plan's or network's attention, it is critical that the organization keep their "eye on the ball" and maintain a focus on the daily care management of their member population. This web summit provides a detailed discussion of current trends, tools, strategies, techniques, benchmarks and critical issues involved with care management in today's environment.

Webinar / Audioconference

  • The Webinar / Audioconference is scheduled for Thursday, November 15th, 2007 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. Eastern.
  • Peter Kongstvedt, M.D. Partner, Health & Life Sciences Accenture and Joseph Gifford, M.D., Chief Medical Officer, The Regence Group, a Blue Cross Blue Shield organization, are the featured Webinar faculty.
  • Doctors Kongstvedt and Gifford will discuss current trends, tools, strategies, techniques, benchmarks, operational challenges and critical issues involved with care management in today's environment and cite various applicable case experiences.
  • In addition to a thorough discussion of their presentations, the Webinar will include ample time for audience questions and answers.
  • Attendees will receive dial-in instructions shortly before the event, and have two options to view the companion presentations: they can logon to view the live webinar online, or simply link to download and view or print the presentation offline.

Podcasts

  • Three downloadable Podcast recordings will be available 24/7 to attendees, each approximately fifteen minutes in length.
  • Companion presentations related to each Podcast discussion are also available for downloading.
  • Susan K. Willette, National Practice Leader, Health & Productivity Management, Mercer, will discuss Total Health Management. She will address Mercer's best practice approach to achieving optimal workforce health and productivity, involving an integrated service model aimed to reduce total costs and improve productivity above and beyond siloed interventions. Susan will introduce "readiness" characteristics for pursuing an integrated model and a high-level road map for establishing a multi-year, phased-in approach to THM. She will outline a framework that integrates: Strategies and Program Design; Messaging in terms of Policies, Communications and Incentives; Delivery of programs and service engineered to be seamless; and Measurement & Evaluation to in relation to the total investment and return
  • Marybeth Regan, PhD, Reden & Anders, will discuss Oncology: the New Imperative for Care Management. Oncology represents 12% of a typical payer's overall medical expense budget and these costs are growing at 13% annually – double the rate of average medical costs. The National Institute of Health estimate overall costs for cancer in 2006 at $206.3 billion which included direct medical costs, indirect morbidity costs (costs of lost productivity and indirect mortality costs (costs of lost productivity due to premature death. Besides the numbers, there are many issues today, such as fragmented care, treatment variability, lack of preventative measures, lack of transparency which results in confusion and a complicated and difficult consumer experience. This presentation will address care management with a focus on improvement in care delivery.
  • Amy Salls, Business Solutions Executive, DST Health Solutions, will discuss Identifying Care Gaps and Demonstrating Value to Employers. Members, or employees, do not always follow recommendations that have been given to them. By combining predictive modeling techniques with HEDIS methodology, health plans can demonstrate their commitment to monitoring and improving quality while managing financial risk for the employer. By reporting specific areas of disease prevalence and non-compliance, employers can see how their population compares to standards and what trends are taking place in their population. Amy Salls discusses how to: Differentiate high risk and low risk groups based on population health risk factors; Communicate the impact of chronic illness and associated cost to your customers; and Promote primary and secondary prevention at the workplace by engaging employers to develop incentives that address employees who are not receiving care that meets national standards of quality
