Modesto, CA - Managed Care On-Line has identified 27 HMOs
rated as top performers from various data report cards that rate
health plans, including several that were cited in multiple
report cards.
Managed Care On-Line has compiled and posted fifty five data
report cards as one of many features within its on-line service.
"We evaluated report cards that rate plans, and selected
five national and two California data report cards as an
appropriate collection of studies to identify top
performers" stated Claire Bollier Thayer, Director of
Research and Development.
"In examining the issue of health plan ratings, use of
multiple rating report cards would seem to be more beneficial
than relying upon just one particular study." Ms. Thayer
commented. The studies used in the analysis included:
· HCFA: Best Practices HMO Report
· Newsweek: Foundation for Accountability Rating of
America’s Largest HMOs
· FEHBP: Customer Satisfaction Survey
· National Research Corporation: Health Plan Report Card
· NCQA: Accreditation Performance
· Cal-Pers: Health Plan Quality/Performance Report
· Pacific Group on Health: Health Plan Value Check
Three HMOs that received two top ratings from national studies:
DeanCare of Wisconsin, Harvard Community Health Plan of
Massachusetts, and HealthAmerica of Pennsylvania. Also, Health
Plan of the Redwoods from California received top ratings from
both California studies as well as from one national study.
