Purchasing Pool Premium Competition Trends
Modesto, CA - MCOL has identified three significant premium competition trends by comparing plan rates from several purchasing pools.
Managed Care On-Line™ provides a database of purchasing pool premiums charged by various health plans participating in selected purchasing pools. MCOL examined this data for California HMOs from three major purchasing pools: the Federal Employees, CalPERS, and the Health Insurance Plan of California (HIPC). In analysis of this data, three significant competition trends identified are:
The plans listed in the five least expensive plans for at least two of the purchasing pools for 1997 are: Kaiser North (Pers, HIPC), HealthNet (Pers, HIPC), Maxicare (FEHBP, Pers), MetraHealth (FEHBP, HIPC) and Blue Shield (FEHBP, HIPC). In this report, MCOL has also identified 23 major healthcare alliances, cooperatives and purchasing pools located throughout the country.
