Managed Care On-Line™ issues results from new E-Poll on Hospital Capitation
Modesto, CA - Managed Care On-Line™ released its first edition of @E-Poll, a new quarterly MCOL E-Newsletter where members are polled on important managed care issues, conveniently by e-mail. This first edition surveyed members about hospital participation in managed care capitation agreements.
30% of responses indicated hospitals were reducing capitation contracts , 23% felt hospitals were actually increasing capitation activities, and 17% stated their hospitals had never participated in capitation contracts. The response from those working at hospitals was similar to the overall response, which also included professionals from plans, medical groups and other companies. Responses varied greatly by region, ranging from 71% in Mountain states indicating hospitals were reducing capitation contracts to 6% in Mid-Atlantic states.
"We were interested in finding out what trends were taking place in the market with respect to hospital capitation. Were members involved with hospitals finding that the hospitals were reducing involvement in capitation, maintaining current levels of capitation, seeking to increase capitation arrangements or not participating at all in capitation? Responses were tallied by geographic region and perspective of respondent (hospital, plan. physician, other)," stated Claire B. Thayer, Director Research & Development, MCOL.
"We were very pleased with the rapid turn-around time we got between sending out the survey, and receiving the high rate of responses from our members. We are definitely excited about sending out future issues of @E-Poll to our members, and are currently selecting topics." Ms. Thayer concluded.
