Care Will Catch on More Quickly Than Experts Predict Say Visitors; Employers Lead the Group of Enthusiastic
Supporters
MODESTO, CA, May 23, 2000---MCOL (mcol.com), the leading health care information technology company specializing in delivering business-to-business managed care knowledge resources, today announced the preliminary findings of their online Defined Care Survey with two startling revelations—l) site visitors believe that DefinedCare will be adopted more quickly than the industry experts are predicting, with 64% thinking the time frame was less than five years, and 2) employers are the most optimistic sector of all.
Explains
MCOL President Clive Riddle, “While the overall interest in Defined Care and
defined contributions has been validated, it is particularly interesting to
see the optimism regarding the timeframe for Defined Care to catch hold, and
that employers are the most eager for its adoption. Although industry experts
generally predict the timeframe for Defined Care’s widespread adoption is
five to ten years, site visitors were more optimistic.”
Riddle
adds, “These results provide the first measure of reaction to Defined Care
from all the players involved in the equation.” Defined Care refers to the
health care system model in which group benefits are provided through
employer-defined contributions
Visitors
to MCOL’s Defined Care Web site (www.definedcare.com)
and their HMOSurvey.com Web site are given the opportunity to take an online
survey regarding their reaction to the concept of Defined Care. The results
represent responses received during the months of March and April 2000.
Those
taking the poll were well aware of the concept of Defined Contributions; 81%
of the respondents indicated that they had heard of Defined Contributions
before visiting the Web site. Respondents predicted managed care will remain a
key component of Defined Care, with 79% of respondents agreeing that managed
care will have an important continued role, and only 7.5% disagreeing.
Employers
believe that Defined Care will have the greatest impact on the health care
system, with 100% of the employer respondents agreeing with the question
“Defined care assumes that the entire health care system will change as
Defined contributions become more widespread,” compared to overall results
of 57% in agreement, 22% in disagreement and 21% not sure. Employers as a
sector also predicted the most rapid timeframe for Defined Care to become
widespread.
