FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Modesto, CA - MCOL has responded to the May 5th issue of
Newsweek, which takes HMO member satisfaction surveys to task in
the article "The Numbers Racket", by Ellyn E. Spragins.
The article discusses "the flaws in HMOs' satisfaction
reports and how to see through them." Based on the issues
raised in the article, MCOL posed the question, what percentages
of satisfied members should be expected, based on surveys of
multiple health plans that also examine different levels of
satisfaction?
Managed Care On-Line™ has examined this issue on Newsweek's
terms, cross-comparing five consumer satisfaction surveys
conducted by reputable national firms whose polls span across a
large number of health plans, and have quantified "higher
satisfaction" levels in addition to mere
"satisfied" responses.
Managed Care On-Line™ has compiled and posted close to 90
managed care related surveys. These surveys have been classified
into one of three categories: Consumer surveys, Employer and/or
Health Plan surveys, and Provider surveys. In examining the
consumer surveys available within Managed Care On-Line™,
the following were selected for cross-comparison:
Based on this comparison, total overall satisfaction scores in the high 80%s to low 90%s should be expected. Highly satisfied scores in the high 50% to low 60%s should also be expected.
