Modesto, CA – MCOL has released CA HMO Rates 99, a suite of California HMO Rate Data and Tools, with plan specific data provided on CD-ROM.

A centerpiece of the suite is our CA HMO Commercial Premium Rate survey, where we collected over 12,000 sets of premium rates effective the period of 1/1/99 through 3/1/99 from insurance agents, benefit consultants and employers throughout the state. We were able to provide a pretty comprehensive database, with average rates by plan by county broken out by tier, benefit level, group size and age band."
"The Commercial Rate Survey certainly brought to light how much you need to identify and separate the data into 'apples to apples' categories for reasonable comparisons." noted Claire Thayer, MCOL Director of Research and Development. "Still, there are many interesting things we observed overall, such as the five cheapest average single rates by county were all in Southern California: San Bernadino, Santa Barbara, Riverside, Ventura and Orange in order of affordability, while the five most expensive single rates were all rural Northern counties: Del Norte, Plumas, Calaveras, Alpine and Tuolumne in order of highest cost." she commented.
Additional features in the suite include historical premium pmpm revenues by plan; database of current and historical premiums in California purchasing pools, Medicare+ Choice current and historical premiums by plan and payment rates by county, and a e-directory of CA HMOs.
